2 Jan 2011 - Glen Grosick - "Resolutions"

Glen
Our dear brother Glen Grosick spoke, pointing out that many make new year's resolutions to read the Bible all the way through. And, many fail. So instead of just making a resolution, let's look at why we should read the Bible.

Those things written in the Bible were written by men, but men guided by the inspiration of God (2tim3:16). You can trust what the Bible says because God is its author. And the Bible is useful for these specific things:

1. Teaching. It's profitable and useful for teaching - you can expect to be instructed. About God, doctrine , Jesus, the Holy Spirit, about yourself, how you were created, what God's plan is for you.

2. Reproof. Scripture jumps up and smacks you in the face. The Holy Spirit says through scripture "you're wrong."

But God does not leave us in reproof; rather, he gives
3. Correction. (For example a list of things to do *instead*, in 2 Timothy)

4. Instructs us in righteousness. Nos enseƱa a vivir en rectitud. Reading the word gives us what we need to become righteous before God; a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and also how to walk daily in righteousness. "The Bible can produce results in your life."

The Bible can do these things and it's completely reliable. So, it's beneficial to read the Bible, and meditate on it, and relflect on it. Don't make a resolution, but make it a spiritual goal to real the Bible. If you don't have a daily time in God's word, start. If yes, continue, improve on it, increase your time.

If you take the point of view that the bible is boring or not relevant, stop and review these verses and see what they say about what the Bible is, where it came from, who wrote it, and what the potential results are in your life,

After Glen spoke, the Women's Ministry presented Bibles in Spanish to anyone who needed a Bible.

We had good music and food and fellowship. In our announcements, those willing to help out with the conference coming up in Aug 2011 should contact Annette. Our Friday Bible study resumes this coming Friday at 7pm. See everyone then!
