9 JAN 2010 - Greg Stuckey on What Jesus Does vs. the Indescribability of Who Jesus Is.

At our meeting on Sunday evening, we found out about the weekend conference coming up 13-15 January at Church at Sandhurst which they also want to make available to our Hispanic Ministry. For more information about cost and details, contact Mauro or Annette.

Also, we are already working on our Hispanic conference coming up in July. Last year we had about 300 people, and this year we'd like to double that, serving people not only of Florence county but of the surrounding counties. Anyone with the desire to help with the conference should contact Annette, who is coordinating volunteers.

Greg and JamieGreg Stuckey's message today sought to hold on for a moment to the decorations and spirit of Christmas, as we moved our too-often focus from what Jesus does onto who Jesus is.

Greg mentioned several things that are almost, but not entirely, indescribable: The Grand Canyon, the birth of his first child; the parting of the Red Sea. But Jesus as God and Creator, also coming to us as God, fully human, our redeemer, is cast in 2 Cor 9:11-14 as simply indescribable.

And that same Jesus tells us that as Christians, we are not alone (Matt 28:20). That we are precious and secure, children of God, his forever. And to have all this we need merely to submit to, to believe in, him--he who already did all the work that we could never do.

Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us, a truth so wondrous that it's indescribable.

Our next meetings are Friday at 7pm, dinner and Bible study, and next Sunday at 5pm.
